France Télévisions SVoD within 2 years

.... France Télévisions has revealed a major strategic plan to boost creation and launch a producer-backed SVoD platform within the next two years.

France Télévisions’ CEO Delphine Ernotte-Cunci explained to AFP that “there is a real development issue for the French audiovisual sector in front of growing US actors which do not invest into local creation.” The creative plan aims to raise the volume of French drama by 2020 and strengthen the number of late night drama series and international co-productions. The investment budget is set for €400 million to €420 million per year.

The company also said talks are on-going with French production groups such as Newen, Banijay, Lagardère Studios, Xilam and Tetra Media to boost its VoD and replay service Pluzz with an SVoD platform. Previously slated for March 2017, the new revenue-share based service will line-up non-exclusive French content and launch next autumn. The subscription price to the PSB service will likely be below that of Netflix (currently €7.99 for the basic service).

France Télévisions originally hoped it could align with potential French and Euro broadcasters but partners such as TF1 or M6 in France have reportedly not reacted to the proposal favourably....
