RCOM DTH DEMANDS 80 CR FROM TATASKY

Post by dsingh.aakash » Mon Apr 09, 2018 1:39 pm

DTH platform Reliance Big TV (RBTV), (recently acquired by Pantel Technologies), has issued a notice to Tata Sky, demanding ₹ 79.75 Crores.

The demand is for facilitating customer migration & taking possession of RBTV STBs. It has also claimed that Tata Sky had agreed to pay a certain sum for boot up channel to inform the subscribers about the migration.

"Reliance Big TV has issued a notice to Tata Sky for breach of agreed commercial understanding for migration of customers and for illegally hoarding STBs while acquiring subscribers. The total notice value ₹ 79.75 crore," a source close to the development has told the press.

RBTV says TataSky had agreed to pay ₹ 150 per subscriber and ₹ 3000 per STB for an estimated 2.5 lakh RBTV subscribers. The deal included a message on boot up, telling RBTV subscribers to migrate to Tata Sky.

Tata Sky MD and CEO Harit Nagpal said he is not aware of any notice from RBTV & that there was no understanding between the two companies.

"We were talking but nothing happened. Every operator put up ads including Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV, and Videocon d2h. I am not aware of any legal notice issued by them," Nagpal said.

When RBTV announced closure of its operation on 18 November 2017, (before Pantel bought it), Tata Sky apparently had agreed to provide free DTH connection to RBTV customers & carry forward any RBTV account balance of existing subscribers to their new Tata Sky accounts. This was declared to the public on the RBTV website, "We have tied-up with Tata Sky to get you a new connection absolutely free. Your Reliance Digital TV account balance will be added to your new Tata Sky account."
