Media conglomerate is planning to launch an English movie channel under ‘&’ brand called &flix. The broadcaster is awaiting approval from the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) to launch the new channel.
This will be the second English movie channel under the ‘&’ brand. In September 2017, the broadcaster had launched a premium English movie channel &Privé HD.
“We are planning to an English movie channel &flix. We are waiting for approval from the MIB,” Zee Unimedia COO Ashish Sehgal told TelevisionPost.com.
Unlike &Privé, which operates in a super niche space, the new channel will be positioned as a premium channel, however, it will target the mass audience. &flix will have a movie premiere every week. &Privé HD targets high-end cinema lovers.
“&Privé is in super niche space this is a mass English movie channel,” Sehgal added.
In October 2017, ZEEL had entered into a first output deal with Sony Pictures Television (SPT). It also has an output deal with Paramount Pictures.
ZEEL also owns and operators English entertainment and movie channels Zee Cafe and Zee Studio in SD and HD.
