TataSky claims Indian DTH leadership

......India’s TataSky, backed in part by Rupert Murdoch, is claiming leadership in terms of the number of DTH channels on offer to subscribers.

TataSky says its subscribers can view more than 600 channels and services. As at December 2016 it was offering 483 standard-definition and 76 HDTV channels. Additional to this total are another 31 Value Added services, 15 other ‘special’ SD and HD movie services, plus 9 other exclusive feeds.

Tata Sky chief communications officer Malay Dikshit said, “Consumers in India consider the number of channels provided by an entertainment platform to be among the second-biggest reason to make their purchase decisions. Tata Sky is leaving no stone unturned to offer the maximum number of channels and services to its subscribers.

However, TataSky’s channel count leadership is slim. Dish TV supplies 585 channels, while Videocon d2h offers a total of 570 channels and services, while Airtel Digital supplies 520 channels in its latest count.....
